How do I put a Chew Proof Armored bed in a crate?Updated 9 months ago

Our Chew Proof Armored Beds arrive assembled, so when your bed arrives, you may be wondering how to get it in your crate—especially when the width of the crate door is smaller than the width of the bed. Fortunately, no disassembly is required, and the process is actually quite easy. Just follow these steps:

  1. Remove the crate tray. For the majority of crates, the curved edges of the crate tray will be right where the frame needs to sit, so if you leave it in there, the bed will probably end up resting wonky or at an angle. If your crate tray is totally flat, though, feel free to leave it in.
  2. Tip the armored bed partly onto its side, holding it at about a 45° angle from the ground. If you have an elevated bed, do not put the legs on yet (if you already put the legs on, take them off).
  3. Slide the bed through the crate door. With a standard wire crate, the diagonal of the front door will be longer than the width of the armored bed, allowing it to slide through smoothly.
  4. Straighten the bed out once it's fully in the crate, then lower it to the floor.
  5. If you have the elevated bed, prop the bed up with one hand while you screw all four legs in with the other.

For plastic carriers and other crates that don't follow the sizing conventions of standard wire crates, measure the diagonal length of your crate's front door and compare to the width of the armored bed you're considering to ensure it will fit before making your purchase. Some plastic carriers have a top that can be removed, and if your crate is like that, you can always pop the top off to lower the bed in if the door is too small for the bed to slide through at an angle.

Do not disassemble the bed to get it through the door. Reassembling an armored bed requires holding the frame pieces apart at specific distances and angles to get the corners on right, and it won't be possible to do this when it is in a crate.
