Are different colors tougher than others?Updated 3 months ago
When it comes to our Tough Ripstop beds, all covers are made from the same ballistic ripstop fabric, regardless of color. However, not every color has the same texture.
Most colors are our plain ripstop material, which has a slicker, canvas-like feel to it. This material is super easy to keep clean since fur and dirt brush right off, and it's also water-resistant and water-repellant. These work well for beds both indoors and outside. It's available in the following colors:
- Obsidian Black
- Sandstone/Tan
- Blue Quartz
- Sage Green
We also offer a couple softer color options for dogs that are more particular about the feel of their bed. One of these options is called "velvet", and it is ballistic fabric that has been coated with a layer of polyester fibers. Velvet covers have a plush feel due to the extra texture, and while they are softer and a bit quieter, fur and dirt can cling to them more easily. This type of cover is also not as resistant to water. Velvet beds are recommended for indoor use only. The velvet comes in the following colors:
- Light Gray Velvet
- Ballistic Velvet
- Two-tone Gray Velvet
Our other softer fabric type is known as "Premium Finish. This is ballistic fabric that has been treated with a special coating to give it a woven appearance. It's softer to the touch than our plain ripstop ballistic material, but isn't as plush as the velvet. It may still attract dirt and fur a little more easily, but not as much so as the velvet since it isn't as textured. Like the velvet, we recommend it for indoor use only. Premium Finish comes in two color options:
- Titanium Premium Finish
- Taupe Premium Finish
In terms of durability, the softer options are just as strong as the plain ballistic colors since they both use the same ripstop ballistic fabric. However, it's important to note that dogs that really like chewing specifically on soft things might chew a lot harder on a velvet or premium finish bed than a regular ballistic bed, in which case you may be more likely to see damage eventually occur with those styles. Dogs that like to gnaw or scratch a lot could also potentially wear the coated surface off the underlying ballistic material, leaving it looking prematurely worn.
